CULLMAN – Victim Services of Cullman, with the help of Bobby Barrett, R.E. Garrison Trucking and Cullman Shooting Sports, held its inaugural turkey shoot at Barrett Field Saturday. There were many prizes, ranging from a Weber grill, meats, ammunition and cash,  to “stocking stuffer” style prizes like gift certificates to local businesses and restaurants that sponsored the event.

The turkey shoot consisted of 12 rounds at $3 a shot, and a bonus 13th round where shots were $5 for a chance to win the grand prize. A handmade shotgun rod cleaner was donated as a raffle prize by an attendee of the shoot, with the raffle taking place between rounds.

The event was put together in three weeks, according to Hillary Collins of Victim Services, who laughed, “(It was a lot of) running around getting things together.”

“It was definitely a community effort,” said Carol Horstman, executive director of Victim Services.

Horstman thanked R.E. Garrison Trucking, Cullman Shooting Sports, Bobby Barrett and other sponsors for their involvement with and donations to the shoot.

All proceeds from the event, $514, went to Victim Services’ domestic violence victims’ shelter, Harbor Haus.

Said Horstman, “It was fun and a good outreach.”

Victim Services’ mission is “To break the cycle of family violence and sexual assault, preventing future acts of abuse through education, outreach and empowering the survivors through support and advocacy.”
