BREMEN – The Cold Springs Eagles hosted the Cleveland Panthers for Thursday night football. The Panthers dominated the first half, cruising to a 33-0 victory.

The Eagles got the ball to start the game, and it didn’t take long to set the tone for the night; Cold Springs fumbled the ball on the second play. Cleveland couldn’t capitalize, however, due to a holding penalty that put the Panthers behind the chains.

The Eagles got the ball for the second time, and for the second time, they fumbled. This time Cleveland capitalized after the turnover when Andrew Green hooked up with Parker Gilliland for an 8-yard touchdown to put the Panthers up 6-0 with 5:20 remaining in the first quarter after the failed PAT attempt.  The next possession for the Eagles was a three-and-out, but the Panthers blocked the punt, giving Cleveland the ball on the 5-yard line. The Panthers scored on the next play on a 5-yard run by Matthew Walker. After the conversion the Panthers took a 14-0 led with 3:00 in the first quarter.

After the kickoff the Eagles fumbled for the third time in the first quarter, leading to a 30-yard touchdown pass from Green to Ethan Olberding, stretching the lead to 20-0 after the failed PAT attempt, with 2:33 still left in the quarter. The Panthers forced a three-and-out to give their offense another chance to score in the opening quarter; they did on the first play from scrimmage on a 25-yard run by Green giving the Panthers a 26-0 lead.

In the second quarter scoring slowed down until Green found Gilliland, turning a bad snap into a 64-yard touchdown with 3:16 remaining in the half, giving the Panthers a comfortable 33-0 halftime lead.

The Eagles came out of the locker room still fighting and capitalized on a high throw on the second play; Roberto Ayala got the ball back for his offense with an interception. The Panthers’ back-up players on defense bent but did not break throughout the second half, but the back-up offense didn’t find the rhythm of the starters.

With a 6:00 clock in the second half, the Panthers cruised to the 33-0 victory.

The Eagles are now 1-8, 0-6 2A Region 7 and will take on Danville next week at home.
