GOOD HOPE – It was all Good Hope Monday night as the Lady Raiders defeated the Cordova Lady Blue Devils in straight sets 25-20, 25-22, 25-16 to claim the 4A Area 10 title.
In the early stages of set number one, the Lady Raiders and Lady Blue Devils looked to be evenly matched as neither team could get a much of a lead, that is until Good Hope found its groove. Playing from a 5-5 tie and on the strength of three kills from Jesse Kent, the Lady Raiders went on a 6-0 run to force a Cordova timeout. Good Hope kept the pressure on coming out of the timeout, but Cordova had regrouped and found its own groove. The Lady Blue Devils played Good Hope tight for the rest of the set, but the Lady Raiders rode out the storm and held on to the lead, taking the first set 25-20.
The second set was just about as close as it could get. The action see-sawed back and forth, neither squad able to amass more than a three-point advantage. Good Hope pulled away in the latter part of the match thanks to great serving, amazing play around the net with blocks and kills and great all-around play from the back row and middle of the floor. Good Hope took set two by a score of 25-22.
Although not easy, the third and what turned out to be the final set of the night was a bit easier for Good Hope with standout play from Kate Kent, who was a beast around the net. Her three kills, three blocks and one ace in the set, combined with the three kills from Leyton Seal, a kill from Rebekah Crauswll and an ace form Alee Jackson helped the Good Hope Lady Raiders to a 25-16 set win. This gave the Lady Raiders the 3-0 match victory and the 4A Area 10 championship. The Lady Raiders will enjoy the victory then set their sights on the super regional.
