CULLMAN – Former Alabama Crimson Tide star Jeremiah Castille's popular camp is coming back to town. The 10th annual Jeremiah Castille Character Camp will take place on June 10 at Heritage Park in Cullman. The camp, put on through the Jeremiah Castille Foundation, is free and geared toward kids in grades 1-12.

“We call them character camps,” Castille told The Cullman Tribune last summer when he was in town. “We teach character. We integrate that into the training side, the agility and speed, as well as the football-specific stuff. We talk about the importance of honor, humility, respect, integrity, just some character traits we feel are important as a person.

“For me, growing up in a neighborhood where there was drugs and alcohol, domestic violence, it was the character that was taught to me by my teachers and my coaches that helped me escape that environment. “It gave me the knowledge, equipped me with the knowledge to overcome the circumstances of the neighborhood that I grew up in. That is important to me that we equip our young people with that.”

Castille played football for legendary Alabama coach Paul "Bear" Bryant from 1979-1983, during which time, according the Foundation's website, "God used the mentorship of Coach Bryant to help him grow from being an 18-year-old boy into a 22-year-old young man." In the 1983, Castille was drafted by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

This year's Speed and Agility Camp is divided into two parts:

Grades 1-6: 9:15 a.m.-noon

Grades 7-12: 10:45 a.m.-1 p.m.
