CULLMAN – Road construction has begun on U.S. Highway 278 in Cullman County. The project affects Highway 278, from just west of I-65, all the way east to the junction of 278 and Alabama Highway 69.

Good Hope Contracting (GHC) is in charge of the work, which the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) describes as "safety widening, resurfacing, traffic stripe and safety improvements."

According to ALDOT North Region Information Specialist Seth Burkett, "Work will be going on throughout the summer. The majority of the work, including concrete work and resurfacing, will be performed at night. We do not anticipate any daytime lane closures."

GHC was awarded the contract for the work for $2,885,781.32.
