FAIRVIEW – It was a great night to be a Fairview Aggies fan as both the girls and the boys swept Curry in big area games.

Fairview 54, Curry 49 (Boys)

The Fairview Aggies led for most of the game and had a double-digit lead going into the final quarter. They survived a rally by the Curry Yellow Jackets to get an important area win at home.

In the first quarter, both teams were feeling each other early on. Curry took an early 6-2 lead, and the Aggies scored the next nine points to take an 11-6 lead, but the Yellow Jackets scored the last four points of the quarter to cut the lead to 11-10 after one.

In the second quarter, Curry took a 12-11 lead on a John Moon layup, but Fairview, behind senior Tyler Ball and junior Bryson Fletcher, scored 10 out of their 11 points in the middle of an 11-2 run to push the Aggie lead to 21-14. Curry used the 3-ball to get back in the game as nine of their final 13 points were from behind the arc and they took a 27-25 lead going into the locker room.

In the third, it was all Fairview, as they outscored the Yellow Jackets, 19-5 to take a 44-32 lead going into the final quarter.

Curry made the Aggies really sweat it out in the fourth, as three out of the first four offensive possessions that the Aggies had in the quarter resulted in turnovers, and three free throws by Caleb Aaron and six points by Jakob Hicks helped the Yellow Jackets cut the lead to 44-41, then Fletcher hit a layup and got fouled, and he completed the 3-point play to stop the 9-0 run by Curry, pushing the lead to 47-41 and then to 49-41 on a pair of free throws by Klayton Knop.

A three by Harrison Hall, followed by a split at the free-throw line by Zach Woder, cut the lead to 49-45, but that was as close as they would get as Fletcher and Ball clinched the game at the free-throw line, scoring the final five points to hang on to the big area win.

Fletcher led the Aggies with 20 points. Ball finished with 10, and Luke Yarbrough and Truman Boyd each finished with eight. They improve to 5-6 on the season and 1-1 in area play. They will host Cold Springs next Tuesday.

"Bryson Fletcher had a really great game." Fairview coach Eddie Groves said. "Everyone stepped up when they needed to. We do need to do a better job of taking care of the ball and take care of the rebounding issues. Curry got some big rebounds that kept them in the game. Their defense really gave us problems. In a big area game like this, we needed to hit our free throws, and we did."

Curry was led by Hall with 11 points. Hicks and Aaron each finished with 10 and Moon had eight. Curry falls to 2-8 on the season and 1-1 in area play. They will travel to Winston County next Monday.

Fairview 69, Curry 25 (Girls)

Fairview is starting to become more and more dangerous in every game, and they continue to showcase their skills on both sides. Add to that, eight different Lady Aggies scored at least two points in another dominating game.

Fairview led 20-6 after one, 38-9 at the half, and 60-13 after three.

Abby Taylor led the way for the Lady Aggies with 19 points. Abby Schnittker finished with 13 and Jada Golden had 11. They improve to 10-2 on the season and 2-0 in area play. They will host No. 4 Cold Springs next Tuesday, a team that defeated them, 58-42, in their last meeting at Cold Springs. The county tournament may be a little more than a month away, but this game could determine who gets the top seed.

Haley Holcomb had seven for Curry and Keana Pearson finished with six. They will travel to Winston County next Monday.
