CULLMAN – Standard Time returns tonight, and you know what that means! Yep, an extra hour of sleep. Clocks officially roll back at 2 a.m. Sunday morning, Nov. 6, but it's a good idea to set yours back before you go to bed tonight unless you're a night owl and plan on being up into the wee hours of the morning.

Almost every state in the United States observes Daylight Saving Time (when we 'spring forward' in March), which affords an extra hour of sunlight during the summer months. Standard Time means it gets dark earlier in the evening, but the sun comes up sooner in the morning.

Many people use these occasions when time falls back and springs forward as reminders to check and change the batteries in smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors.

U.S. states and territories that don't observe DST are Guam, Puerto Rico, American Samoa, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Hawaii and most of Arizona.
