DODGE CITY – The Dodge City Town Council held a regular meeting on Thursday evening, where they discussed the Town’s blood drive, forming a neighborhood watch and receiving their Insurance Service Office (ISO) rating.

Mayor Tawana Canada praised local leaders for handling the Town’s First Responders Blood Drive, stating, “I just want to say thank you for doing so much help and taking over.”  Community members reported that local businesses in Dodge City were very receptive to helping the blood drive be a success, one saying that he, “personally went to just about every business in Dodge City and that everyone was willing to support us.”

While gaining support for the blood drive, volunteers also asked local community members about starting a neighborhood watch. “They’re all on the neighborhood watch email list, but it’s a matter of how many show up,” reported one.

Free haircuts were offered to anyone willing to donate blood today. The blood drive was held on Friday in the Dodge City Town Hall with the American Red Cross. The goal of the blood drive was to collect 25 units of blood to show appreciation for the work of firefighters and law enforcement personnel. Official results haven’t been reported yet.

In other business, the council passed the month of August’s budget and the Town received an ISO rating of 5.5 (on a scale of 1-10, with 1 being the best score).

Meg Glenn’s mini library proposal and construction of a speed bump on County Road 205, as well as the purchase of a Memorial Day sign for Highway 69 were all tabled until further information can be obtained on their respective proposals.

Canada mentioned the painting of the senior building that is scheduled for next Wednesday, Sept. 14 said she hopes to see volunteers help with the project.
