CULLMAN – In a special called meeting of the Cullman City Board of Education Wednesday morning, the position of assistant principal at Cullman High School was filled.

New principal Kim Hall announced the hiring of James "Jake" Johnson to take the spot she vacated recently. Hall was named the new principal last month, replacing Dr. Elton Bouldin who retired in June after eight years in command of the high school.

In 2014, Johnson interned at Cullman City Primary School. He spent the 2015-16 school year at Fairview Elementary as assistant principal to Marty Hardman.

Johnson's duties, Hall said, will be handling the ninth and 11th grades, plus the guidance department and assisting in institution and academic roles.

Cullman High School's first day with Hall as principal, and Johnson and Mark Stephens as assistant principals, will be Aug. 10. Stephens serves as the school's athletic director in addition to assisting in the administration.

Among other new business, the board gave permission to contract with Ramona Evans to provide consultation, mobility and orientation services for visually impaired students beginning Aug. 10 and ending Sept. 30, 2017.

Permission to contract with Stacey Tankersley to provide CPR training for athletic personnel at Cullman High School, permission to contract with Glenda Harbison to provide teaching services at East Elementary School for 2016-17 school year and permission to contract with Debbie Mann, Brittney Calvert, Gennifer Dyer, Jade Fitzgerald, Sara Snow, Marcia Stringer, Genevieve Praytor, Tammy Powell and Cindy Bates to work Aug. 10-12 to prepare for the 2016-17 school year at Cullman City Head Start was also given.

The board approved the resignation of Head Start Teacher Jennifer Woodard at Cullman City Primary School, effective Aug. 1. The board also approved a probationary principal contract for Hall with Cullman High School.

The next board meeting will be a regular session and will take place on Aug. 16 at 6 p.m. in the school board office board room. The meeting is open to the public.
