HOLLY POND – Holly Pond resident Randy Britt has qualified for Holly Pond Town Council, Place 4 (Safety).

“My greatest concern and number one priority is the safety of our community, all its citizens and the school kids who attend Holly Pond,” stated Britt.

Britt says he doesn’t understand why the town turned down what he claims is substantial grant money in recent years. (Britt says documentation is available from Cullman County Economic Development records.)

“For some reason, the mayor and town council have turned down almost $800,000 in grants, once on March 5, 2009 and again on April 27, 2011 for tornado shelters. The 2009 grant was fully approved, ready to begin the work, but a letter was sent from the town returning the grant,” he said.

“The 2011 grant would have been part of the grant programs after the tornadoes of 2011. According to a memo, the town council voted to "not " continue with the grant request. The town’s portion would have been about $20000 with a large part of that cost being the land provided by the town, continued Britt. “We have got to have members of the council who will find and fund emergency shelters, not turn down almost $800,000 in grant funds.”

A 1966 graduate of Holly Pond High School and 1972 graduate of Auburn University, Britt served 10 years in the U.S. Army and graduated from the Jefferson County Reserve Sheriff’s Academy. He served as a Cullman County Reserve Deputy and then a City of Cullman Reserve Police Officer with full arrest authority. He was also the park police officer at Heritage Park for a number of years.

Britt served on the Cullman County Park Foundation Board which sponsored the County Strawberry Festival, dance and beauty pageant. He was the chair for two years. He is currently a Realtor with All Properties of Alabama LLC realty. He served two terms, 2014 and 2015, as a regional vice president of the Alabama Realtor’s state Executive Committee responsible for budgeting, training, governmental affairs, education and administration of over 12,000 Realtors.

Britt will face incumbent Paul Brown in the Aug. 23 municipal election.
