CULLMAN – Suzanne Fuller Harbin today officially announced her candidacy for the Cullman City School Board, Place 5.

“I want to ensure the continued quality of education in Cullman City Schools,” said Harbin. “I have been honored to serve on a board of education for three terms that has worked collaboratively with the mayor and city council, community organizations and the superintendent to provide continued funding for our schools. Progressive leadership and innovative educational programs, including the integration of technology into the classroom, have been essential to the success of our school system.”

A graduate of Cullman High School, Harbin attended the University of North Alabama, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in history and English.  She received her master’s degree in education in 1992.  Harbin has been employed at Wallace State Community College since 1991 and currently serves as the director of advancement, where she has successfully raised and managed over $40 million in grant funds during her tenure.  She is responsible for all of the college’s resource development including grant writing, grant management, the WSCC Alumni Association and the Future Foundation.

“As a graduate of Cullman City Schools and the parent of three children, all of whom attended Cullman City Schools, I have a valuable perspective and commitment to our schools and community.  Cullman City Schools are exceptional due to a simple formula unique to our community: quality teachers, committed parents, community support and progressive leadership,” stated Harbin. “I am seeking an additional term because I believe that my knowledge and experience in education, economic and workforce development, and the community bring value to the core work of the school board, which is to provide the best education and opportunities for our future leaders.”

Harbin has served or currently serves in several school and community organizations including the Cullman City Schools Foundation, Cullman Middle and High Academic and Athletic Booster Clubs, East Elementary PTA and Cullman Women’s League and is a founding member of Cullman Area Workforce Solutions. She is also a 2015 graduate of Leadership Alabama.

Harbin and her husband, Terry Harbin, a loan officer at First Community Bank, have three children: Casey, 27, Elizabeth, 24 and Nicholas, 20.  She is the daughter of Dr. Wayne B. and Elaine Fuller and the granddaughter Mr. And Mrs. Fred (Willene) Little and the late Dr. and Mrs. Harry L. (Agnes) Fuller, Jr. The Harbins are members of First Methodist Church.
