Traffic Stop, short chase lead to multiple drug arrests

CULLMAN – Five people were arrested on Monday after leading police on a short chase. Cullman City Police Department narcotics investigators Justin Craft and Chris Thomason initiated a traffic stop on a silver Ford Taurus, but the vehicle failed to stop and the driver led investigators on a short chase, traveling approximately a mile down County Road 1030 before pulling into a driveway.

Once the vehicle stopped, the front passenger got out and attempted to escape on foot. Craft detained the suspect, Dustin Lee Freeman, and returned to the vehicle where Thomason had detained the remaining vehicle occupants.

Those detained were identified as Wendi Nichole Hill Lovell, Wondlas Mark Givens, Ashley Renee Crenshaw and Niomie Danille Daly.  

Methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia were recovered from the vehicle, as well as a loaded pistol from inside the vest Givens was wearing.

Lovell, 32, of Cullman, was charged with attempting to elude law enforcement and issued traffic citations.

Freeman, 23, of Water Valley, who was on probation, was charged with attempting to elude law enforcement, unlawful possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. Freeman also had warrants with the Cullman County Sheriff’s Office.

Givens, 52, of Cullman, was charged with certain persons forbidden to possess a pistol, unlawful possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

Crenshaw, 24, of Cullman, was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. Crenshaw also had warrants with the Cullman Police Department.

Daly, 31, of Crane Hill, was arrested for warrants with the Cullman County Sheriff’s Office.
