Oct. 29, 2020 update for Cullman County from BamaTracker.com

CULLMAN, Ala. –  Cullman County added 42 new COVID-19 cases Wednesday, according to the Alabama Department of Public Health (ADPH), with 507 confirmed in just the last 14 days. Statewide, 1,157 new cases were confirmed, with 20,315 confirmed in the last 14 days.

On Wednesday, Cullman Regional Medical Center reported 23 positive patients, with two on ventilators. Cullman Regional has reported 31 COVID deaths to the ADPH since the beginning of the pandemic. Of these patients, 25 were from Cullman County.

Alabama State Health Officer Dr. Scott Harris told The Tribune in an email, “Alabama has seen a steady increase in new case numbers, hospitalized patients and percentage of positive tests over the past two weeks. It is unclear if there is a single explanation, since there seem to be a number of counties around the state that are experiencing these increases. Now more than ever is the time for Alabamians to take seriously the guidance on social distancing, wearing of face masks, and practicing good hygiene and sanitation.”

The Tribune reached out to Gov. Kay Ivey’s office for a statement on the state’s sharp increase in numbers.

Her office responded: “Governor Ivey says often that we are all experiencing ‘COVID fatigue.’ However, she is quick to commend and thank Alabamians for stepping up and doing their part to help curb the spread of this virus, while we await a successful vaccine. Her ultimate goal is to lift the mask mandate and continue easing restrictions.

“She is hopeful we are in the final stretch of this virus, and as we enter flu season, we cannot lose steam. Let’s keep doing our part by wearing a mask, social distancing and practicing the recommended protocols. Governor Ivey wants to see this in our rearview mirror sooner, rather than later. The governor and (State Health Officer) Dr. (Scott) Harris will continue keeping a close eye on our progress and will provide an update ahead of November 8. Governor Ivey absolutely wants to see our state move forward.”
