CULLMAN COUNTY – At what is supposed to be a joyous time in the life of a high school senior, friends and family of Nick Johnson, 18, of Crane Hill, who was slated to graduate this weekend from Cold Springs High School, are instead holding vigil at his bedside at UAB Hospital. They’re asking for the community’s prayers over Nick at this time.

Johnson was involved in a single-vehicle car wreck on May 12 on County Road 222 near Big Bridge. He was airlifted to Birmingham with severe injuries. His condition is precarious, according to family members on social media, so tonight, Wednesday, May 17, friends and classmates came together for a prayer vigil.

Friend Kim Capps posted on Facebook: “We had a sweet time of prayer for Nick Johnson, and I'm grateful to those who were able to come on such a short notice. Some of Nick's friends and classmates asked that we have a second vigil so we plan to meet again Friday evening at 7:00 in front of the high school. Help spread the word and (i)n the meantime, please keep praying for Nick and his family as I know you all are.”

A friend says family members have not left Johnson’s bedside since he was taken to UAB. His parents, Michael and Kemberlee Johnson, as well as his siblings Dustyn, Jennah, Britney, Trystan and Michael have been with him constantly.
