Fairview in the clubhouse with the lead after round 1 of county golf tournament

FAIRVIEW – After 18 holes of the Cullman County High School Golf Tournament, the Fairview Aggies are in the clubhouse with the lead.

Playing the first round at Chesley Oaks, the Aggies carded a 339 and have a 15-stroke advantage over the Good Hope Raiders. Good Hope is second with a 354, followed by West Point at 377 and Hanceville in fourth place with a 424.

The Aggies were led by senior Hunter McKelvy, who fired a 6-over par 77 with Jacob Allen shooting an 85, Hunter Yeager an 87 and Josh Barnes a 90.

Good Hope's scoring went with Cole Pearson a 72, Josh Cofer an 83, Riley Eisner with a 96 and John King a 103.

West Point is in the clubhouse, led by Brandon Farley with a 91, Graham Nelson an 85, Alex Barton a 99 and Bailey Calvert a 102.

For Hanceville, Zach Hudson shot an 89 and was followed by Hank Radcliff with a 99, George Oden 100 and Dustin Auletti with a 136.

In the individual portion of the tournament, Holly Pond's Dawson Foust is on top with an even par 71, his best score of the 2017 season. He leads Pearson from Good Hope by one stroke and is seven shots ahead of McKelvy.

Varsity girls:

Fairview leads with a 281 after round one as Maci Yeager carded an 89 and is in the clubhouse tied for the individual lead. Supporting her score was Hope Bowen with a 91 and Emmy Leigh Glover a 101.

Good Hope had a 340 for Wednesday, led by Taryn Collins with a 96, Callie Shelton a 121 and Leah Bailey a 123.

Katie Tangye of Cold Springs shot an 89 to tie Yeager with a round left to be played. Alivia Ball from Fairview finished with a 108.

Junior varsity:

Fairview leads with a 410 after the Aggies got a 91 by Carter Robinson, a 96 from Devan Jennings, Tanner Whitehead 108 and Slade Ryan 115.

West Point is in second with a 432, led by Devan Jenkins' 105, Raylon Moore's 106, Garrett Willingham's 107 and Deakon Hembree's 114.

Good Hope followed with a 491 as Tripp Taylor scored a 108, Max Baver 121, Alex McDonald 128 and John Strandridge 134.

 

The tournament goes from Chesley Oaks to Cross Creek Course in Cullman with tee time Thursday set for 1 p.m.
