CULLMAN, Ala. – A Murphy USA project planned for Second Avenue Northwest has moved into the permitting stage following several months of action before the City of Cullman Planning Commission.
A building permit valued at $1,360,700 was issued Sept. 4 for a Murphy USA project at 800 Second Ave. NW, according to a statewide construction-permit report.
Hollis Concrete & Co. Inc. is listed as the contractor.
The permit follows a series of vity planning actions involving Murphy property along Second Avenue Northwest.
The Planning Commission approved a Murphy Oil USA site plan in May, subject to contingencies from the city engineer related to an Alabama Department of Transportation traffic and safety plan.
The project returned to the Planning Commission in August, when Murphy requested a short-form subdivision near Second Avenue Northwest and Eighth Street Northwest.
Commissioners approved combining and dividing three parcels under common ownership into two lots.
According to information presented at the meeting, Murphy would continue to occupy Lot 1, while the second lot would remain available for future commercial development.
The Sept. 4 permit provides another indication that work is moving forward at the property, but the publicly available permit summary does not identify the building’s square footage or describe the construction.
Murphy already operates a Cullman location at 624 Olive St. SW near Walmart. Current employment advertisements from the company continue to identify that location as Store 6770.
The records reviewed by The Tribune do not establish whether the Second Avenue Northwest project will become an additional Cullman Murphy USA location, replace or relocate the existing Olive Street operation or involve another configuration.
They also do not establish what business is planned for the second commercial lot created through the August subdivision.
