VINEMONT, Ala. – The Alabama Cooperative Extension System will host a free Landscape Tree Care and Maintenance Workshop on Tuesday, Oct. 27, from 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m. at the South Vinemont Community Center.

“This full-day workshop is part of a statewide Extension program called Green Up Alabama, with the goal to educate homeowners and tree care professionals on growing healthy landscape trees to reduce risks and issues in the future,” Cullman County Extension Director Dr. Kira Sims said.

Topics will include proper tree pruning, tree selection, planting and establishment, landscape tree health and maintenance, assessing potentially hazardous trees and considerations involving trees and construction. The workshop will also include an outdoor demonstration.

Speakers will include Auburn University Extension specialists with experience in landscape and urban tree care, along with a certified arborist.

“This is a great opportunity for tree care professionals to increase their knowledge in their profession, as the material covered will be practical, so it’ll be applicable to their daily work,” she said. “Homeowners will also benefit from this workshop by understanding more about the trees in their landscape, how to care for them and whether they are appropriate for the setting and what to look for when planning future tree selection and planting.”

She added, “Almost everyone has trees in their landscape, so this workshop would be helpful to anyone with a tree in their yard.”

The Landscape Tree Care and Maintenance Workshop is free and open to the public. Lunch will be provided for participants who register in advance. Additionally, ISA education credits will be available for those who are certified.

The South Vinemont Community Center is located at 88 Ridgeway St. in Vinemont. Advance registration is available through the Alabama Cooperative Extension System’s event page, www.aces.edu/event/tree-care-and-maintenance-workshop-cullman-morgan-counties.
