HOLLY POND, Ala. – Cold Springs built a 21-0 lead through three quarters and answered Holly Pond’s fourth-quarter touchdown with another score to secure a 28-8 victory Friday, Sept. 25, remaining unbeaten at 5-0.
Ethan Day rushed for 79 yards for the Eagles, while Cason Alexander and Cooper Johnson added 49 yards apiece.
Cold Springs held the Broncos scoreless until the fourth quarter, handing Holly Pond its third loss of the season.
The Eagles limited Holly Pond to six yards on the game’s opening possession before putting together a 13-play scoring drive.
Alexander finished the possession with a touchdown, and Cold Springs took a 7-0 lead.
The Broncos’ next possession carried into the second quarter, but Holly Pond remained unable to reach the end zone.
Day scored on a 20-yard run during the period, helping the Eagles extend their advantage to 14-0 at halftime.
Cold Springs punted on its first possession of the second half, but an interception gave the Eagles the ball back. Day followed with another touchdown as Cold Springs pushed its lead to 21-0 in the third quarter.
Holly Pond broke through in the fourth quarter when Miguel Garcia scored on a touchdown run.
The Broncos added a 2-point conversion to cut the deficit to 21-8 with 8:40 remaining.
Cold Springs responded with its final touchdown of the night to finish off the 28-8 victory.
Garcia rushed for 54 yards and a touchdown for Holly Pond. Hunter Tolbert added 43 rushing yards.
Cold Springs will host Gordo on Friday, Oct. 2. Holly Pond (2-3) will travel to Hokes Bluff that night.
