ADDISON, Ala. – Addison entered Friday night unbeaten and left A.G. Hicks Stadium with another dominant victory.
The Bulldogs scored 29 points during a decisive third quarter and recorded their fourth shutout of the season, defeating Oakman 43-0 to improve to 6-0.
Addison (6-0, 3-0 Class 1A, Region 7) has outscored its first six opponents 294-13. The Bulldogs have shut out Winston County, Lynn, Phillips and Oakman while allowing touchdowns only against Waterloo and Meek.
Oakman fell to 1-5 with the non-region loss.
Addison opened the scoring with a touchdown at the 6:26 mark of the first quarter. The point-after attempt was successful, giving the Bulldogs a 7-0 lead.
The Bulldogs added their second touchdown with 5:26 remaining in the second quarter. Another successful extra point sent Addison into halftime leading 14-0.
Any chance of an Oakman comeback disappeared quickly after the break.
On Addison’s first offensive snap of the third quarter, the Bulldogs broke a touchdown from midfield. The point-after attempt extended the lead to 21-0 with 11:45 remaining in the quarter.
Addison struck again at the 8:04 mark. The extra point made it 28-0.
The Bulldogs needed only 14 seconds of game time to find the end zone again. Addison scored its fifth touchdown with 7:50 remaining in the third, then converted a two-point attempt at 7:41 to build a 36-0 advantage.
Addison completed its 29-point third-quarter surge with another touchdown at the 3:15 mark. The ensuing extra point produced the final 43-0 margin.
Oakman never reached the scoreboard, and Addison’s defense protected the shutout throughout the fourth quarter.
The Bulldogs’ unbeaten start has been powered by an experienced group that includes senior quarterback Elijah Roberts, senior running back Zane Smith, junior receiver and defensive back Conner Lane and junior linebacker Joey Wilson.
Entering Friday’s game, Roberts led Addison with averages of 120 rushing yards and 108.6 passing yards per game. Smith had scored a team-high 11 touchdowns, Lane led the Bulldogs in receiving and Wilson paced the defense with 6.2 tackles per game.
Addison entered the matchup with a 19-8-1 advantage in its all-time series with Oakman. Friday marked the schools’ first meeting since the Bulldogs defeated the Wildcats 41-0 in 2009.
The Bulldogs will return to region play Friday, Oct. 2, when they host Belgreen. Oakman will host Curry in a Class 3A, Region 5 matchup.
