CULLMAN, Ala. – Cullman County cheerleaders brought home four first-place finishes from the AHSAA North Super Regional, held Tuesday, Sept. 22, at the Cullman OmniPlex.
Nine squads from Cullman, Good Hope, Hanceville, Vinemont and West Point competed in a daylong event that drew schools from across north Alabama. Squads performed Game Day routines, which include crowd-leading material such as the fight song, sideline chants and cheers. Many also competed in traditional divisions.
Cullman High School led the local results with three division titles. The Bearcats’ varsity won the Varsity 5A Small division with a score of 85.9, ahead of Albertville (74.8) and Muscle Shoals (66.5). Cullman’s junior varsity won both of its divisions. It posted an 85.1 to top Junior Varsity Game Day Large and an 80.5 to win Junior Varsity Large.
Good Hope Middle School took the fourth title, winning Junior High Small with a 67.1 in a five-team field.
Several other local squads finished near the top of their divisions. Hanceville’s varsity placed second of four in Varsity 3A Game Day Small with an 85.1, behind Plainview. West Point’s varsity was second of four in Varsity 4A Game Day Large with an 84.6, behind Scottsboro.
Good Hope’s varsity came within five-hundredths of a point of a title. The Raiders scored 70.15 in Varsity 4A Small, just behind Scottsboro’s 70.2. Good Hope also placed third of five in Varsity 4A Game Day Small with an 81.25.
