HOLLY POND, Ala. – The Holly Pond Town Council at its Sept. 14 meeting voted to surplus the town’s water tower.
The Council noted that the water tower has been up since 1966 and has not been in service for many years. All members acknowledged that it would be in the town’s best interest to surplus the structure, as the town’s water is supplied through the county.
“It was checked out and determined, due to its condition, it would be best to remove for safety and liability factors,” Mayor Carla Hart stated.
The town is looking for the best option for the removal of the water tower, but hopes to have it removed soon.
Business licenses
The Council discussed a business license ordinance, including timing of issuance prior to events and if the license fee should cover an event if has to be postponed due to weather concerns.
The council came to an agreement to revise Ordinance No. 260914-01 to allow licenses to be purchased within seven days prior to the event, not including the day of the event. They also aimed to correct the phrasing of the ordinance to not limit a license’s validity in the event of postponement.
Project updates
Hart told the Council and attendees that the previously addressed camera installations have been completed. Other improvements such as the Governors Park concession stand facia board replacement and pressure washing the pavilion roofs have also been completed. The final phase of these improvements will include painting the pavilions and concession stand roof.
The Council is awaiting quotes for revamping local softball and baseball fields. An update should be announced, ideally, at the next meeting.
