CULLMAN, Ala. – The Cullman City Board of Education at its Tuesday, Sept. 8, meeting recognized two students for outstanding achievements.
Cullman High School’s Lukas Howlett was recognized for achieving the rank of Eagle Scout. Howlett proudly stated he has 40 merit badges. Superintendent Kyle Kallhoff also applauded his Eagle Scout bench projects at CHS and East Elementary School.
“Only 6% of Boy Scouts go on to earn their Eagle Scout, so let’s give him a round of applause,” said Kallhoff, who also thanked Howlett’s parents for “raising a good young man.”
Kallhoff also recognized West Elementary School fourth-grader Daxton Nabors, one of seven students in Alabama selected as a 2026 National Math Star.
“This earns Daxton a spot in a highly selective, long-term enrichment program to identify and support students with extraordinary mathematical talent,” Kallhoff said.
Several plans were approved, outlining 2026-2027 federal funding strategies for Cullman City Schools, specifically focusing on the allocation of formula grants.
Kallhoff explained, “They detail how Title I funds will be distributed among local qualifying schools to support low-income students, while Title II and III focus on teacher effectiveness and English language proficiency. The slides also highlight Title IV priorities, such as STEM education and student safety, alongside mandatory administrative set-asides. Furthermore, these plans emphasize public transparency by explaining parents’ rights to verify educator credentials and outlining various district compliance plans.”
He went on, “Collectively, these plans demonstrate CCS’s commitment to removing barriers, providing equitable access to educational opportunities and ensuring appropriate support for students with unique circumstances. The plans establish clear procedures for identification, services, accountability, parent involvement and successful student transitions while maintaining high academic expectations for all students.”
The Board also approved a $92,892.12 change order for the classroom addition at Cullman High School.
Two contracts were approved:
- Katherine C. Waldrop for physical therapy services from Sept. 8, 2026-July 31, 2027
- Total Spectrum Speech and Language Therapy LLC, from Sept. 8, 2026-July 31, 2027
They also approved the removal of several inoperable wooden light poles from the middle school practice field.
Additionally, several Child Nutrition Program equipment items were approved for surplus from the middle and high school. This included a Hobart slicer, Robot Coup food processor and stand mixer, Wrangler floor machine, serving lines and cashier stands.
The next board meeting will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 20, at the Cullman Middle School library at 5 p.m.
