CULLMAN, Ala. – Addison won two of three matches at the Muscle Shoals Tournament while Holly Pond faced three out-of-state opponents at the Rocky Top Classic on Saturday.
Addison goes 2-1 at Muscle Shoals
Addison opened its tournament schedule with a 2-0 victory over Loretto, winning the sets 25-21 and 25-13.
The Bulldogs followed with another straight-set victory, defeating James Clemens 25-22 and 25-16.
Addison closed the tournament against Lindsay Lane Christian Academy. Lindsay Lane won the opening set 25-19 and completed the sweep by taking a competitive second set 25-23.
The 2-1 tournament performance moved Addison to 15-6 this season.
Addison will travel to Meek at 4 p.m. Tuesday for a Class 1A Area 13 match. The Bulldogs are also scheduled to face Lindsay Lane again during Tuesday’s tri-match.
Holly Pond faces out-of-state competition
Holly Pond faced teams from Tennessee, North Carolina and Kentucky during the Rocky Top Classic at the Sevierville Convention Center in Sevierville, Tennessee.
Summertown of Tennessee defeated Holly Pond 2-0 in the Broncos’ opening match, winning 25-17 and 25-20. The loss ended Holly Pond’s 19-match winning streak.
Holly Pond responded by winning the opening set against McMichael of North Carolina 26-24. McMichael rallied to take the second set 25-21 and won the deciding third set 15-10 for a 2-1 victory.
Blazer of Ashland, Kentucky, defeated Holly Pond 2-0 in the Broncos’ final match. Individual set scores were not available.
Holly Pond finished the weekend at 19-4 after entering the tournament with 19 consecutive victories.
The Broncos will return home Tuesday to face Vinemont at 5 p.m. in a Class 3A Area 10 match.
