MOULTON, Ala. – Cold Springs placed five runners among the top 40 and captured the small-school girls championship Saturday at the 24th annual Chickasaw Trails Invitational at Oakville Indian Mounds Park.
The Eagles finished with 96 points, beating runner-up University School of Nashville by 16 points. Battle Ground Academy placed third with 132.
Cold Springs seventh-grader Gemma Swidecki led the Eagles with a third-place time of 20:17.44 in the 5K race. Sophomore Kynzlie Myrex joined her among the medalists, finishing sixth in 20:58.70.
Ally Mavers placed 34th in 23:06.00, Claire Hancock finished 37th in 23:19.19 and Allison Rice placed 40th in 23:30.95 to complete Cold Springs’ championship scoring lineup. Lila Cates added a 115th-place time of 28:00.42.
Vinemont freshman Aurellia Powell earned a medal with a fifth-place finish, completing the course in 20:48.88.
Cold Springs also placed fourth in the small-school boys standings with 198 points. Athens Bible won the division with 111 points, followed by Westminster Christian Academy with 147 and Marion County with 159.
Carson Rice led the Eagles in 12th place with a time of 18:09.81. Samuel Hunt followed one position behind him in 18:16.74.
Caleb Dill placed 30th in 19:09.57, James Baggett finished 39th in 19:34.31 and Malachi Adams completed Cold Springs’ scoring five in 127th place with a time of 22:21.16.
Anakin Powell led Vinemont’s boys with a 45th-place time of 19:36.65. Abram Powell placed 73rd in 20:30.22, Logan Holt finished 169th in 23:54.96 and Logan Warren placed 187th in 24:39.17. Vinemont had four listed finishers and did not receive a team score.
Cullman placed 14th among 39 scoring teams in the large-school boys division with 412 points. Homewood won the team championship with 103 points, followed by Mountain Brook with 119 and Hoover with 163.
Senior Henry Crocker led Cullman with a 17th-place time of 16:11.59. Mason Gobble finished 104th in 17:23.40.
Thatcher Lucas placed 202nd in 19:11.75, Connor Robinson finished 208th in 19:15.96 and Sean Gilfoyle placed 222nd in 19:31.17 to complete Cullman’s scoring lineup.
Cullman’s girls placed 17th with 468 points in the separate B-team 5K division. Madeline Stidham led the Bearcats in 31st place with a time of 20:05.06.
Khloe Nalley finished 124th in 22:21.39, Tinley Alldredge placed 140th in 22:49.35, Aubree Lawrence finished 145th in 22:56.74 and Victoria Waldrop placed 153rd in 23:15.42 to complete Cullman’s scoring five.
Sawyer Eifert represented Cullman in the boys B-team race and finished 193rd with a time of 21:51.30.
Cullman finished 13th in the junior-high boys standings with 389 points. Trajan Norrell paced the Bearcats in 16th place with an 11:55.94 performance in the two-mile race, while Jacob Dunn placed 27th in 12:25.42.
Christopher Granger finished 128th in 14:10.85, Walker Helton placed 197th in 14:56.87 and Ayden Rabending finished 198th in 14:57.86.
The Cullman junior-high girls placed 15th with 469 points. Lorelei Green led the Bearcats in 56th place with a time of 15:39.68.
Ali Higdon finished 153rd in 17:39.55, Harper Armstrong followed in 154th at 17:39.69, Olivia Jones placed 236th in 19:41.59 and Ella Tuggle finished 310th in 22:48.04.
