
COLONY, Ala. – The Colony Town Council at its July 14 meeting heard from Councilmen Michael Johnson and Jerrold Flanigan reported on a grant-writing seminar they recently attended in Decatur. The seminar focused on small grant opportunities that could help fund projects and improvements for Colony and its residents.
In other business, the council adopted Resolution 2026-2, authorizing a planning grant application. Resolution No. 2026-2 aims to secure funding to address community infrastructure priorities, with a critical focus on evaluating the town’s power grid infrastructure and stormwater management systems.
The council also approved the purchase of an automobile and a golf cart for town use.
Parks and Recreation officials discussed plans for the upcoming Colony Day celebration as preparations continue for the annual community event. Colony Day will take place Saturday, Aug. 1, from 8 a.m.-until at the Colony Educational Complex at 151 Byars Road. The town said there will be a DJ, mechanical bull, live music, water slide, food, games and vendors. The community is invited to come out and enjoy the festivities.
Residents expressed concerns about recent power outages and electrical surges affecting the area. They noted that the repeated outages could potentially damage household appliances and other electronic equipment.
The next Colony City Council meeting will be Tuesday, Aug. 11, at 6 p.m. at Colony Town Hall.
