HANCEVILLE, Ala. – At its meeting Thursday, June 25, the Hanceville City Council approved funding for a municipal operations software modernization project and postponed a vote on a rezoning request for Elm Street.
Municipal operations software modernization
The council approved a budget amendment to fund the modernization of the city’s payroll, permitting receipts, human resources and timekeeping systems.
Mayor Nolan Bradford is authorized to enter into agreements with BS&A Software and Andrew’s Technology for the implementation of the new systems. The first-year cost is not to exceed approximately $107,850, including a proposed $97,155 for BS&A Software and $10,695 for Andrew’s Technology’s UKG system, pending final contract review.
Currently, the city uses QuickBooks to manage state and federal grants. Officials said they were advised to transition to a more secure platform better suited for municipal grant management.
Councilman Robert Powell said, “QuickBooks is really used for nonprofits and small businesses, so we began looking at different companies that kind of cater to small municipalities.”
The city currently relies on a paper-based system. Officials said the new software will streamline administrative work, unify departments and modernize daily operations.
Residents who prefer to complete transactions on paper will still have that option after the new system is implemented.
Rezoning
The council postponed a vote on Ordinance 2026-10, which would rezone property on Elm Street from R-1 to R-2. The decision was delayed after residents raised concerns about sewer access in the area.
