CULLMAN, Ala. – On May 28, friends, family and fellow seniors came together at the Cullman Senior Center to honor Ms. Senior Cullman County Sheri Rasco and Ms. Super Senior Cullman County Mazzie Twilley with a send-off celebration before they head to the Ms. Senior Alabama Pageant on June 6 in Daphne.

Twilley said being part of the pageant has given her a chance to encourage other older adults to get involved in community activities.

“It’s encouraging to be able to go and take part, and to inspire other ladies to join activities in the county and state so they can keep moving forward in their lives,” Twilley said. She said the send-off celebration reminded the contestants that they have support from friends, family and the community as they get ready for the state competition.

To earn their titles, contestants first took part in the Ms. Senior Cullman County Pageant. The event has two age groups, Ms. Senior for women ages 60-69, and Ms. Super Senior for women ages 70-79. Instead of performing individual talents, contestants joined in a group routine, which helped them build friendships and get to know each other during the pageant.

Twilley said she hopes events like the pageant will inspire more seniors to take part in community activities and make use of the opportunities available to them. The Ms. Senior Alabama Pageant will bring together county winners from across the state to compete and celebrate active aging, community involvement and personal achievement.
