GOOD HOPE, Ala. – The Good Hope City Council had a regularly scheduled meeting Tuesday, May 26.
During the financial reports, council members reviewed grant reimbursements related to a USDA-funded project, alcohol license revenue and accounting transfers between city funds. Councilmembers discussed reviewing additional financial details, including monthly expenditures, during future work sessions after reports have been finalized.
Council members discussed recent heavy rainfall that brought more than 5 inches of rain to the area over the weekend and reviewed ongoing drainage concerns throughout the city. The discussion included flooding in low-lying areas, ditch maintenance and challenges associated with aging drainage infrastructure and private culverts.
The council also received an update on the city’s new wastewater treatment plant. Officials reported that a valve issue was repaired by the contractor at no cost to the city.
Additional reports included updates on street maintenance and parks and recreation activities, including youth sports tournaments affected by recent rain.
The next regular meeting of the Good Hope City Council is scheduled for Monday, June 8, at 6:30 p.m. at Good Hope City Hall.
