CULLMAN, Ala. – Christ Covenant Presbyterian Church will hold its annual rummage sale Friday-Saturday, May 15-16, to raise money for short-term mission trips and outreach.
Organizer Judie Hubbard said that after 11 years, the sale has grown from a small gathering into a giant tradition that brings in the community and fills the fellowship hall and Sunday School classrooms with donated goods.
Hubbard said shoppers will find all kinds of affordable treasures, including furniture, home décor, vintage items, Barbies and even fur coats. Church members spend months collecting, cleaning, fixing and organizing donations before the sale.
“We are glad that our items give the term ‘hand-me-down’ a good name,” Hubbard said. “Our members bring us their slightly used items, and if needed, we clean, repair or refresh the item before selling it to the community.”
Besides shopping, guests can stop by the refreshment tent for cookies and lemonade or visit the prayer area, where church members are available to pray with visitors or take private prayer requests.
Hubbard said the event has grown into something more than just a fundraiser. “Our mission is like a ripple in a pond. We started the rummage sale for mission trips but realized we are also doing a ministry for our community as well.”
The sale runs Friday, May 15, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday, May 16, from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Christ Covenant Presbyterian Church, at 1310 St. Joseph Dr. NW in Cullman.
Hubbard suggested that first-time visitors give themselves plenty of time to look around, and longtime shoppers should “put on your walking shoes, elbow pads and dig in.”
