GOOD HOPE, Ala. – The Good Hope City Council at its March 23 meeting discussed roads, zoning, parks and more.
During departmental updates, council members noted that ongoing roadwork remains a priority and that additional paving is planned near city hall. The council said there is a need to inspect sections of roadway where sewer lines run beneath the surface to prevent future issues.
Parks and recreation league baseball practices have started, with the council reporting that local fields and park areas are in good condition.
The council also addressed a recommendation from the planning commission regarding the rezoning of property located at 416 Speegle Road. The proposed ordinance would change the zoning classification from B-2 Restricted Access Business to General Business. The ordinance received its first reading during the meeting. A public hearing was held to accept comments; however, no members of the public spoke. The council is expected to consider the measure again at its next meeting before taking a final vote.
Council members also discussed concerns about Hathcock Park, particularly unauthorized overnight use and litter. Council members stated the park is intended for public use, but some visitors have been using it in ways that cause maintenance and safety concerns. Potential solutions discussed included installing barriers such as bollards to prevent vehicle access while still allowing pedestrian entry, as well as exploring additional measures to maintain the park’s intended use.
The next Good Hope City Council meeting is scheduled for Monday, April 6, at Good Hope City Hall at 6:30 p.m.
