FAIRVIEW, Ala. – Alabama Mountains Rivers & Valleys (AMRV) Resource Conservation & Development (RC&D) recently gathered with Sen. Garlan Gudger, R-Cullman and local leaders to announce a $15,000 grant for the installation of a new sunshade structure at Fairview Elementary School. The project is designed to protect students from harmful UV exposure and create a safer, more comfortable outdoor play environment. The funds for the project were appropriated to AMRV by the Alabama State Legislature and the Cullman County legislative delegation.

Gudger thanked the Fairview Elementary faculty and staff and local community for their efforts to improve the playground.

“I want to thank the team here at Fairview Elementary and the Fairview community for their work on this project,” Gudger said. “I also want to thank AMRV RC&D for providing the funding. All of us work together, from the state level down to the local level, to make our communities a great place to live.”

Fairview Elementary School Principal Dr. Erica Rutherford said the project demonstrates the strong support the school receives from community leaders and local residents.

“Fairview Elementary is incredibly grateful for the support of Senator Gudger and our state leaders who recognize the importance of investing in our students and community,” she said. “This project quickly became a reality because our entire community came together with a shared commitment to our school. I am truly amazed at how quickly it all came together, which is a testament to Senator Gudger’s devotion to our schools and our community’s dedication to supporting Fairview and its students.”

The State of Alabama has funded RC&D for over 25 years. Renona Seibert, executive director of AMRV RC&D, said the organization is proud to support projects that directly benefit local communities.

“We love projects like this, bringing money back to the community, and I just want to thank everyone for their contributions to this project,” Seibert said. “I also want to thank Senator Gudger, because we couldn’t do what we do without the support of the legislature.”
