WEST POINT, Ala. – West Point resident and Brandin’ Iron General Manager Josh Speakman is a Republican candidate for the Cullman County Commission, District 2.

“My goal is fostering economic growth, business loyalty and community prosperity,” Speakman said. “In our community, few individuals have contributed more significantly to the establishment and sustained success of local businesses than Mr. Roy Drinkard. With over eight decades of dedicated leadership, Mr. Drinkard has been instrumental in pioneering new enterprises and ensuring the ongoing vitality of established businesses. Attracting new businesses is essential to economic dynamism, as they bring innovative services, diverse product offerings and expanded opportunities that enhance the quality of life for all residents.”

Speakman said equally critical is a steadfast commitment to supporting existing small businesses.

“These enterprises form the backbone of our community, having long provided essential goods and services, generated employment, sponsored youth athletics, supported charitable initiatives and maintained the vibrancy of our neighborhoods,” he explained. “My commitment, as your next Cullman County Commissioner for District 2, is to implement targeted incentives — such as tax credits, grants and other forms of assistance — that enable our small businesses to expand, modernize and invest confidently in their future. Local entrepreneurs deserve the assurance that their contributions to our community are recognized and reciprocated through meaningful support.”

Last, he shared that he would be an advocate for equitable treatment in economic development incentives. He said any tax credits, abatements or similar benefits extended to large corporations to establish operations in our area should also be made available to existing small businesses, enabling them to pursue comparable opportunities for growth and reinvestment.

“I will also champion policies that prioritize the utilization of local small businesses’ products and services in county-funded projects, in full compliance with statutory bidding requirements,” Speakman said. “This approach will ensure transparency, fairness and integrity while directing the benefits of public development directly to our community’s established enterprises. By working together, we can cultivate a balanced and resilient economy — one that honors our heritage, strengthens our present and builds a prosperous future in which both emerging and long-standing businesses thrive collaboratively, reinforcing the distinctive character and enduring strength of our community.”
