CULLMAN, Ala. – Cullman senior basketball player Molly Wilson thanks God for helping her overcome some tough times in her life, and she wouldn’t be here today if it wasn’t for Him. She talked about her favorite Bible verse and song, and how much that has changed her life.

“He means the world to me. I wouldn’t be here without Him. I get the privilege of playing every game for Him. He has helped me in so many ways. I have always struggled with anger issues on the court and in school, because I expect myself to be perfect. He has helped me conquer that mentality and allow me to play the game that He wanted me to play,” Wilson said. “My favorite verse is 2 Corinthians 12:10, because it reminds me that failure is a privilege, and that is when you grow as a person. I’m also Catholic, so I mostly hear hymns, but my favorite hymn is probably Christ Be Our Light. I also like the song, John 1. It makes me calm down and remember why I’m here. It just helps me focus back on Him and that He has a plan for my life.”

Molly wants to play a huge part in helping people of all ages find God, and she tries to be the best version of herself in and outside of school and sports for so many kids. She has enjoyed changing so many little kids’ lives during her time at a youth group.

“I would love to help others find God. He just really changes lives, and it would be amazing if I can help in that process,” Wilson said. “It’s very important. I try my hardest to be the best version of myself to hopefully inspire others in the best way possible. I’m part of a youth group, and I look forward to it every week. I’m grateful to be a part of a community full of kids like me. I’m so grateful. I was one of those kids whose life got changed, and I’m so lucky to be able to be in that position for others. It makes my day.”

She gave advice to those people who want a relationship with the Lord but are either struggling or are new, and she goes through some simple, but important rituals every day to help her get closer to God.

“Just try to get involved. Church is like one big family, and they will help you in so many ways. Reading the Bible is beneficial. It can answer questions that you might have regarding faith. Lastly, just talk to Him. He’s the world’s best listener,” she said. “When I wake up, I just try and thank God that I am alive. I pray before I eat. Before I go to sleep, I pray and then, I do a daily devotional. I try to read some of the Bible too. I am not perfect, but I try to do these things every day.”

Molly was around so many great teammates and coaches during her career as a Lady Bearcat and being around them helped them all get closer in their faith. She talked about some of her favorite basketball/school memories, and she has met a lot of Christian people that helped her get closer to God.

“In my career, I’ve gotten to experience a lot of coaching changes, which gave me the chance to get to know and play under a ton of different coaches. Because of this, my teammates and I grew really close to each other. We have bonded over both good and bad times that we will never forget. I’m so grateful to have had such amazing teammates, and they really have become my best friends. They help me in so many ways. We have a devotional before every game, and my coach encourages everyone to be involved in church. It’s just a great environment to be in. Everyone was a positive influence on me at some point,” she said. “My favorite memories are when I scored my 1,000th point, and when I got to travel all around the nation to play basketball. A lot of the students that I know are great Christians that inspire me every day.”

She has some great role models in her life that has helped her in so many ways, and she has taken away some important things during her walk with the Lord.

“My role models are my parents, Paige Bueckers, and my close friends, Zoe Snider, and Katie Richter. I’m really lucky to have them in my life. It really is just God’s will that I was introduced to all of my role models. My parents and friends have been so great and allowed me to thrive. Paige Bueckers is just setting a great example for Christian basketball players. I’m grateful to have learned so much from everyone,” she said. “Nobody’s perfect. Just try to be yourself and do your best. No matter what happens, God will always love you.”
