CULLMAN, Ala. – Small and upcoming farmers are invited to attend a Financial Planning for Farmers Workshop on Thursday, Feb. 12, 2026, from 6-8 p.m. at the North Alabama Agriplex. The free workshop is part of the Military Veteran & Beginning Farmer series and is sponsored by the Cullman County Cattlemen and Cattlewomen.
The workshop is designed to help farmers of all experience levels better understand long-term financial planning and avoid common pitfalls that can affect the future of both their farm and family.
“This workshop will offer farmers of any operation size and experience level the opportunity to learn about planning for their financial future,” said Dr. Kira Sims, director of the Cullman County Extension Office. “The discussion will help farmers identify strategies to achieve financial goals as it relates to investing and retirement and how to avoid common mistakes.”
The program will be led by Katie Brown of Edward Jones investment office. Brown brings both a financial and agricultural background, working directly with local farmers to develop investment and retirement strategies tailored to their unique needs.
“Full-time farmers don’t always have access to retirement plans like people who work for companies or government,” Sims added. “Even part-time farmers or those already receiving retirement income can benefit from tips on how to strategically invest to provide a stronger financial future for their farm and family. Katie’s experience with farmers and her understanding of agriculture allow her to provide advice best suited for this audience.”
