AUSTIN, Texas — Two Gulf South Conference football student-athletes were named to the 2025 NCAA Division II Academic All-America Team, as selected and announced by the College Sports Communicators (CSC).
Delta State offensive lineman Gabe Schweitzer and West Alabama kicker Elijah Guyton were both named CSC First Team Academic All-Americans. Schweitzer is the first Statesmen since 1982 to be recognized, while Guyton is the first Tiger since 1984.
The announcement marked the Gulf South’s first CSC Academic All-Americans since 2022. It is also the first time since 2016 the conference has a First Team honoree and the first time since 2014 two GSC student-athletes were named to the First Team. Since 2000, 18 Gulf South Conference football student-athletes have earned the prestigious honor of being named to the Academic All-America team.
To be selected, student-athletes with a cumulative 3.5 GPA or higher and satisfy other criteria are eligible to be nominated by members of the CSC (formerly CoSIDA). Nominees recognized with Academic All-District honors are then added to the national ballot which is voted on all CSC members affiliated with a Division II school or conference.
