Born in 1942, Gerald Don Reid passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of December 10, 2025, on his 83rd birthday. On the previous day, he’d spent the afternoon and evening with his daughters Cheryl Reid (William Whitley) of Decatur, Georgia, and Terry Chamness of Decatur, Alabama. Always a devoted grandfather, his grandsons are Reid Whitley, Grant Whitley, Nathaniel Whitley, Chad Long, the late Dylan Chamness, and Cory and Justin Knoblock.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Elizabeth and Floyd Woodrow Reid, his son George Edward “Bim” Knoblock, and grandson Dylan Thomas Chamness. He is survived by his sister, Thelma Josephine Owens, of Hartselle, Alabama. Don grew up in Danville, Alabama, on his parents’ farm and spent his life farming, raising cattle and working with horses. He graduated from Danville High School in 1961 then attended Auburn University. His favorite pastime, spanning his adult life, was being a “Dye-hard” Auburn fan and relished his time at Jordan-Hare Stadium, regularly attending games since the 1960’s.

He joined the National Guard from 1963-1969, achieving the rank of Senior Sergeant. In the early sixties he went to work for Southern Bell as a lineman, bringing telephone technology to North Alabama and throughout Tennessee. He worked for the company for forty years before retiring in 2001. In the last several years of his life, he rebuilt and restored his parents 1947 b Farmall tractor, a project he’d hoped to accomplish for a long time. He loved his kids and his pets dearly, and enjoyed nothing better than a good laugh, a cold Diet Coke, and driving down the road, country music playing on the radio, under blue skies with the windows down.
