CULLMAN, Ala. – The Cullman Housing Authority hosted a Wonderland-themed Halloween festival at Hilltop Community Center on Oct. 30. The event featured games like croquet and ring toss, candy and treats, as well as arts and crafts. The festivities were led by characters such as Mad Hatter, Cheshire Cat, Tweedledee, Tweedledum, Queen of Hearts, a very time-efficient rabbit and Alice herself.

Are more festivals in the cards? Executive Director Marquisha Griffin said the group had a great time hosting and plans on doing more festivals in the years to come. She said this year’s event wouldn’t have been possible without teamwork. Office staff and organizers included Griffin, Breana Lyvers, Gerri Miner, Tammy Williams, Kelly Jones, Tanya Davis, Zahne Anderson, Carrie McKenzie and an abundance of maintenance staff.

“This would be our third year,” Griffin stated. “We started doing more activities with our residents, and this just happens to be one of our fall activities. It’s one of our most successful in terms of turnout.”

When asked if there would be similar events for the end of the year Griffin advised, “For the holiday season we will have two movie nights. One for the kids and one for the adults.”

These movie nights will take place Tuesday, Dec. 9, and Friday, Dec. 12, at the Hilltop Community Center, 1545 Vine Circle SW, Cullman. The 9th will be the adult movie night, featuring “Elf.” Then on the 12th the kids will gather to watch “The Polar Express.” Times TBD and will be posted at www.facebook.com/cullmanha.

The Cullman Housing Authority is currently accepting throw blanket donations for kids’ movie night. These will be handed out to the children before the movie starts. If you would like to donate you can bring these items to the Cullman Housing Authority at 408 Cleveland Ave. SW, Cullman, AL 35055.
