HANCEVILLE, Ala. – Hanceville Fire Chief Bart Absher will participate in a fire safety storytime on Wednesday, Oct. 8, at 10 a.m. at the Shirley Burden Public Library in Hanceville.
Library Manager Teresa Rivera said since Absher is the new fire chief, this will be a great collaboration.
“Although he has been a fireman for a long time and has served the community of Hanceville for many years, he was recently named fire chief,” Rivera said. “Since I have been here at the library over five years, he has always brought the firetruck with his team to assist with our summer reading program. This time, in celebration of October being Fire Safety Month, he will read a story and talk about fire safety to children and families to assist with the knowledge needed to keep our environment safe.”
To ensure a spot, Rivera suggests participants sign up on the library’s Facebook page to join the event.
“We will also have a pumpkin decorating contest on Oct. 15, and a Halloween party on Oct. 29, where we encourage everyone to wear a costume,” she said. “All of these events will be on Wednesdays at 10 a.m. The winner of the pumpkin contest will be announced on Oct. 29.”
The library will host a book sale on Nov. 8.
The Shirley Burden Public Library is open Tuesday-Friday from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. It is located at 201 Commercial St. in Hanceville.
