CULLMAN, Ala. – Major League Fishing professional angler Flint Andrew Davis, 22, of Leesburg, Georgia, has been indicted on multiple charges related to the April 16, 2025, boating crash on Smith Lake in Cullman County that resulted in the deaths of Joey M. Broom, 58, of Altoona; John K. Clark, 44, of Cullman; and Jeffrey C. Little, 62, of Brandon, Mississippi.
According to court documents, a Cullman County Grand Jury on Oct. 2, 2025, indicted Davis on three counts of reckless manslaughter, two counts of first-degree assault, one count of reckless operation of a vehicle/vessel, one count of failure to follow boating rules of the road and one count of boating without boating safety certification.
Major League Fishing confirmed the crash happened during the second day of the Tackle Warehouse Invitational on Smith Lake.
Cullman County District Attorney Champ Crocker announced the indictments at a press conference on Friday, Oct. 3, 2025. He said Davis was arrested Thursday evening and posted bail. A visibly emotional Crocker also showed an 11-second video of the crash, which happened on a sunny, clear day. Joining Crocker were Alabama Law Enforcement Agency Senior Trooper Kyle Stephenson and Marine Patrol Chief Matt Brooks.
According to the indictment, the crash happened at approximately 7 a.m. on April 16, 2025, just south of the hazard buoy at Millers Flats on Smith Lake between a vessel operated by Davis and a vessel operated by Gary W. Holcombe. Also on board the Holcombe vessel were Broom, Little and Luke H. Morgan. It said Holcombe’s vessel was floating in the area between the buoy and shore. Its engine was running, but it was being controlled by the trolling motor that had the spot-lock device engaged while the occupants were actively fishing. Meanwhile, it said, Davis’ vessel was traveling west-northwest along the left side of the channel. While cutting a point, it navigated between the hazard buoy and shore. As a result, the bow collided with the front starboard side of Holcombe’s vessel in an angular orientation. It said Davis was traveling at approximately 67 miles per hour at the time of impact. The force of the impact caused Davis’ vessel to override Holcombe’s, crossing over it from the starboard bow to the rear port side.
The day after the crash, on Thursday, April 17, 2025, the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency released the following information:
