Oktoberfest 5K/10K races happening Saturday

CULLMAN, Ala. – WellStone is hosting the 18th year of the Oktoberfest 5K and 10K races this Saturday, Oct. 4, beginning at 8 a.m. at Festhalle. 

WellStone Chief Operating Officer and Race Director Chris Van Dyke said both the 5K and the 10K start at 8 a.m. with race day registration opening at 7 a.m.

“Just show up and register with a QR code or you can pay with cash,” Van Dyke said. “Both races also finish in front of city hall, and awards will immediately follow at the gazebo. Timing is going to be done by Fleet Feet this year. The overall male and female winners of each race will receive special medals and $50 cash. There are also gold, silver and bronze medals for each age group. We will also have random drawings for door prizes.”

This race supports the Cullman Area Mental Health Foundation and the Foundation supports Cullman County-specific mental health projects at WellStone. 

Other donations are accepted at race registration or can be sent to P.O. Box 2186, Cullman, AL 35056.

According to Van Dyke, WellStone is north Alabama’s largest and most comprehensive behavioral healthcare provider.

Cullman clients can access dozens of programs, including traditional therapy, psychiatric services, substance use disorder services, residential treatment, school-based therapists along a full continuum of crisis care from the 998 Lifeline, the Mobile Crisis Teams and WellStone Emergency Services (WES) for adults and teens.”

WellStone is a public Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic and accepts traditional insurance, Medicare, Medicaid and self-pay with sliding fee scales. No one is turned away from WellStone programs or services because of an inability to pay. www.wellstone.com
