Mrs. Edith Hancock of Columbus, Ga. spent last week-end visiting relatives here and at Vinemont.

J. B. Mauldin of Cullman visited his parents, Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Mauldin, Sunday.

Clifford Screws of Fairview and Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Screws and Mike of Hartselle visited their sister, Mrs. Cornelius Kreps, Sr., and her twin boys, Jerry Lee and Terry Lee in the hospital at Columbus, Ga., last week-end. They came back via Carrollton, Ga., and visited an uncle, Less Adams, who is eighty-eight years old.

Mrs. Vernie Pattillo of Birmingham and son, Robert (Bob), who has served a year at Lackland A. F. B. in Texas, has his discharge until further notice and has accepted his former position as radio announcer at Hattisburg, Miss., beginning September 28, visited Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Philpot on Tuesday.

Mr. and Mrs. Raymon Philpot of Columbus, Ga., recently visited Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Mauldin.

Mr. and Mrs. Fred Scruggs were dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Campbell and children last Sunday.

Mrs. Talmadge Maddox and children of Sylacauga visited her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hoyt Grimes, several days last week.

Henry Jonas and J. A. Ponder have returned from Birmingham.

Prof. T. R. Guthery closed a successful term of his school at Trimble Wednesday.

Mrs. Nancy McFarland has returned to Birmingham after a few days visit with her sister, Mrs. M. J. Heningar.

S. H. Green, J. M. Lovett and S. J. Griffin were the entertainment committee for the banquet of the Friendship Lodge No. 33 K. of P. when the members’ wives and sweethearts will be guests.

Miss Hattie Hays left Wednesday to enter school in Nashville.

The scarlet fever epidemic has almost died out.

Rev. Tillman Powell of Bremen was in town Monday.

Miss Viva Chance and Cecil Dodson were married on Friday with Rev. E. J. Martin officiating.

Miss Ercena Barker and Ernest Galin were married at St. John’s Evangelical Church on Saturday evening with Rev. W. H. Aufeder officiating.

P. G. Hartung, Jr., entertained thirty of his friends at a rook party on Friday evening.

Geo. Stiefelmeyer, Sr. is spending a few days in Canada.

Miss Cyril Edwards has returned from Atlanta after a six weeks visit with relatives there.

Mr. and Mrs. Charles Deppe have moved into their new home on First Street.

Leroy Bledsoe and Sidney Morrow leave for Atlanta’s Southern Dental College this week.

Supt. R. E. Moore and Supt. R. J. Johnson attended a school meeting in Montgomery this week.

Kathryn Herrell and Myrtle Wise presented the program for the Junior Study Club when it met with Elizabeth Robinson Saturday afternoon.

A mad dog was killed at D. H. Hathcock’s store at Good Hope Monday by Claude Reid and Wallace Hathcock.

Cullman county’s new Board of Education is composed of J. B. Dodson, G. W. Ponder and the Revenue Commissioner. It includes C. A. Stiefelmeyer of Cullman and C. Gray of Hanceville.

As happy as a child on his birthday was Gray Haddock, who on that anniversary at his Crane Hill home, received a present he had long desired upon him but the very special guests were members of the W. M. Woodard W. C. T. U., P. T. A., Home Demonstration and P. W. C. Auxiliary. The officers were Jeff Burks, Rev. Ed Tucker, Kermit Gorham, Smith, Athel Hyatt, Herbert Gorham, Ed Haddock, and Misses Lorene, Alma and Isobel Haddock.

While returning from Birmingham, Eugene, a Fort Payne 1st truck driver, skidded on the wet pavement and went into a ditch. The truck was damaged about $500 and the driver, Eugene was unhurt except for the fact that he had to crawl out of the cab himself being covered with dirt and grease from the truck.

Arriving this week from Sacramento is Don Forney, son of Mr. and Mrs. Forney Collier. Don has been employed in that western city and will now enter college and also work on his master’s degree.

A group of Cullman High students organized a Press Club for the purpose of publishing a school paper. The club plans to sponsor one this junior high school. The officers are, vice-president, Edna Perkins, secretary-treasurer, Mary Jean Parsons, Bertis Rasco. The club has petitioned the Quill and Scroll society, the national honorary journalism society. “Quill and Scroll” is a society, the goal of all students interested in journalism.

A three-day trip to Norris Dam, Tenn., was made by a group of Boy Scouts. The group included Jesse Hagemore, Luther Alvis and others. They also visited the Cherokee reservation, and in Cherokee, visited the famous Hazel Alvis.

Election to membership in the Judson College Glee Club after only one year of study in the department is an honor. Sue Smith, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. L. H. Baer, who is a freshmen, has been chosen as a member of the Glee Club’s song committee, will be accompanied by the Glee Club on its recital and has been elected a member of the Glee Club for the season. Miss Smith has been in college this year.

Delegates from the Coterie to the Third District Federation convention in Moulton Tuesday were Mrs. J. M. Oldacre, Mrs. W. L. Thompson, Mrs. E. E. Jordan and Mrs. Carroll Eddins.
