City of Good Hope passes $6.8 million budget

GOOD HOPE, Ala. – The Good Hope City Council held its final September meeting at Good Hope City Hall Monday night and approved a $6.8 million budget for the 2025-2026 fiscal year.

Some of the notable inclusions in the budget are a 5% wage increase for all city employees in addition to a one-time bonus payment during the upcoming holiday season. One of the biggest expenses listed in the city’s budget is a $1.08 million project to install additional lighting at the 305 interstate exit. The project will be funded through the city’s Economic Development Fund and grant funding. Bidding for the project is expected to begin soon.

Another project included in the budget is the new $1.3 million multi-use community center and storm shelter that broke ground in August. The facility will be located between County Road 437, Daystar Drive and Beech Grove Road in Good Hope.

The Council budgeted for contributions to several local organizations as well. The money for the following contributions will come from the City’s alcohol sales fund.

American Legion Post #4 – $500

School Grant Project – $15,000

Good Hope Primary School – $5,000

Good Hope Elementary School – $5,000

Good Hope Middle School – $5,000

Good Hope High School – $14,000

Good Hope Fire & Rescue – $17,500

Air Med Evac – $9,500

Good Samaritan Health Clinic – $1,500

Margaret Jean Jones Center – $1,000

Wellstone/Mental Health Co – $3,000

Cullman Caring for Kids – $2,500

Cullman Soil & Water – $1,500

North Alabama Agriplex – $2,500

Cullman EMA – $ 1,500

The Good Hope City Council will hold its next regularly scheduled meeting on Monday, Oct. 13 at Good Hope City Hall at 6:30 p.m.
