HOLLY POND, Ala. – It’s all about first responders in Holly Pond right now, with the Holly Pond Fire & Rescue Cadets holding a fundraiser, and the fourth annual Day in the Park scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 9, at Governor’s Park.

Cadet Lead Mentor Phillip Patterson said the Cadet program is for boys and girls, ages 14-18, in Cullman County.

“Our mentors teach the Cadets fire and medical training, and team building,” Patterson said. “They meet 10 hours a month. They also attend a five-day junior firefighter training camp each year in June.”

At Day in the Park, attendees will get a chance to get to know their local first responders.

“It will be at our town park (behind the Holly Pond fire station),” Patterson said. “You will be able to meet our Holly Pond Fire & Rescue volunteer firefighters, EMTs and our Cadets, see our equipment and learn about our duties and how we operate.”

Patterson said they have several fundraisers throughout the year to help purchase equipment for the Cadets to use for their training, but one currently where you can purchase tickets.

“You can visit any Holly Pond Fire & Rescue Cadet or member to purchase tickets for a drawing for a Stoeger P3000 pump 3-inch, 12-gauge, 28-inch barrel wood stock,” he said. ”The cost is one ticket for $5 or five tickets for $20. The winner will be announced at Holly Pond Fire & Rescue’s Day in the Park. We will have a table set up to purchase (tickets) at the park. We will also use the funds for the cost of the program for each future firefighter attending our Cadet program.”

Patterson said the Cadets and the department are always looking for new members.

“We also have a few open spots for our Youth Cadet Program,” Patterson said. “You can reach out to us by calling 256-796-1216 or 256-255-8030, or email hollypondfireandrescue@gmail.com for more information to join our department as a volunteer or to join our Youth Cadet Program.”

The fourth annual Day in the Park will be Saturday, Aug. 9, from 5-8 p.m. at Governor’s Park in Holly Pond. There will be games, food, ice cream and more. Free food will be provided by Temple Baptist Church.
