CULLMAN, Ala. – The Cullman Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Auxiliary held its first Summer Youth Program of the year on July 9, at Cullman VFW Post 2214.

Children participated in art projects and learned about the theme of the week: American symbols. They listened to stories about the history of the American flag, the Statue of Liberty and other national symbols like the bald eagle and oak trees.

They were introduced to Jake the Labrador Retriever, a service dog, and learned about the jobs service dogs do. They were also allowed to ask questions and pet Jake.

Afterward, the children had snacks and played outside.

The Cullman VFW Auxiliary will hold its Summer Youth Camp every Wednesday in July from 10-11 a.m. for kids of all ages at no cost.

The VFW is located at 112 Veterans Dr. SW in Cullman.
