CULLMAN, Ala. – The City of Cullman Sanitation Department will begin its annual leaf vacuum service Monday, Nov. 2, with crews aiming to complete three passes through the city by Jan. 31, 2027.

Residents should place loose leaves at the curb, outside the street or roadway, and keep piles clear of parked vehicles, mailboxes and other obstacles.

Only leaves should be included. Limbs, branches, sticks, trash and other debris can damage the vacuum equipment and delay collection, according to the city.

Two trucks will work south from opposite sides of the city. One will begin in northwest Cullman and travel toward the southwest corner, while the other will start in northeast Cullman and work toward the southeast corner.

After completing a pass, crews will begin the routes again. The city described three passes as its goal for the season.

Leaf vacuum collection has been part of Cullman’s sanitation operations for several years.

In November 2022, The Tribune reported that then-Councilman Johnny Cook announced two new vacuum trucks would enter service that week.

Officials expected the equipment to cause less damage to roads and curbs.
