CULLMAN, Ala. – Cullman County Parks and Recreation has a few events planned for the entire family, beginning with the 30th annual Sweet Tater Festival.
The Sweet Tater Festival will take place Sept. 6-7, from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. and 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at Smith Lake Park. Attendees can look forward to live entertainment, food vendors, sweet potatoes, contests and arts and craft vendors. The Sweet Tater Car Show will be held Sept. 7, with a cash drawing. After September rolls out, October rolls in and on Oct. 31, Smith Lake Park will host Camp-O-Ween from noon-8 p.m.
Cullman County Parks and Recreation Director Kenneth Cornelius said, “We’ll have rides, a DJ, food trucks, different things for the kids to do, different contests. And then we have our campground, full for trick-or-treating,and they can go through the campgrounds for that.”
Attendees do not have to camp at the grounds to participate. The event is open to the public.
On Nov. 20, the 24th annual Winter Wonderland Christmas Light Display will open at Sportsman Lake Park.
Said Cornelius, “We have displays, we have running lights, we have arches, we have where you drive through, and then at the end of it we have where the kids can have a snow machine, can watch cartoons, see Santa, get their picture made with Santa, have a full concession stand where they get hot chocolate, hot coffee, ride the Christmas train.”
Weekends will feature horse-drawn carriage rides.
The Run-Run-Rudolph event will take place Nov. 19. “You can run, walk or you can just stroll through the lights,” stated Cornelius.

Winter Wonderland is a popular family event every year.
“A lot of families told me they’ve been there every year since 2002,so I mean, it’s a huge family tradition as far as, especially for the young ones seeing all the lights lit up – it just becomes magical for the true meaning of Christmas, you know, as far as bringing it down to earth and making sure everybody enjoys the lights,” said Cornelius, who said he is excited for Christmas and hopes to see everyone there.
