Vinemont Town Council discusses long-term projects, annexation opportunities

VINEMONT, Ala. – The Vinemont Town Council held its regularly scheduled monthly meeting on Tuesday, June 2, discussing long-term projects and annexation opportunities.  

During the work session, council members discussed several long-term projects and priorities for the future. Topics included a potential addition to town hall, updating the town’s comprehensive plan, development of a recreation and event center, upgrades to town limit signs, historical displays highlighting the history of Vinemont and continued improvements to the walking trail and art park area, including additional playground equipment and pickleball courts. 

The council also held a discussion regarding potential future annexations into the town of Vinemont. Mayor Bonnie Goodwin opened the discussion, with town officials reviewing maps of surrounding properties that could potentially be annexed. Council members discussed several ways to engage residents and property owners, including social media outreach, informational mailers, door-to-door communication and community meetings.  

Among the items approved during the meeting was a request for Town Clerk Kayecea Sasser and Assistant Clerk Madison Hunt to attend the Certified Governmental Accounting Technician (CGAT) training through the University of Alabama at a cost of $150. 

The meeting concluded with updates on several upcoming community events: 

• Senior Citizens Day – June 15, 2026, from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Vinemont Community Center 

• Community Clean-Up Days – June 11-13, 2026, from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. at the Vinemont Community Center (open to South Vinemont residents only) 

• Fourth of July Celebration – July 5, 2026, beginning at 6 p.m. at the Vinemont Sports Complex – the event will feature food, children’s activities, fireworks and a Touch-a-Truck experience with vehicles from the Vinemont Providence Fire Department, the Cullman County Sheriff’s Office and other participating agencies 

The next meeting of the Vinemont Town Council will be Tuesday, July 7, at Vinemont Town Hall. The work session will begin at 5:30 p.m., with the regular meeting to follow at 6.
