“Do you have a talent to share? The For Kids’ Sake Talent Show is looking for talented performers to take the stage!” the Foundation said in its announcement. “We can’t wait to see the amazing talent in our community!”
A Cullman tradition since 1993
The variety show was started in 1993 by the late Dr. Eugene Bownes, a beloved Cullman pediatrician who noticed that many of his young patients had musical and theatrical talent. According to Cullman Regional Foundation Executive Director Maria Stanford, Bownes “felt their enthusiasm should be shared with the community.” The show was later named in his memory.
In the decades since, the show has given local children a chance to shine on stage while raising more than $100,000 for nursery and pediatric care at the hospital. Last year’s show featured more than 60 young performers.
Performers help raise funds by making a donation at their audition and by selling tickets and sponsorships for the show.
Caring for the youngest patients
Proceeds from the show support the Nursery and Pediatrics Fund at Cullman Regional, which helps provide care for the hospital’s youngest patients. Past proceeds have purchased a variety of patient care items for nursery and pediatric services.
“We encourage the community to take part and show your support for this cause benefiting the nursery and pediatric care at Cullman Regional,” Stanford said ahead of last year’s show.
Show date and venue for the 2027 performance will be announced later.
