BERLIN, Ala. – The Berlin Town Council at its Monday, May 18 meeting addressed road projects and more.

The council said paving of Mt. Carmel Drive and County Road 1615 has not begun, though Councilman Steve Clark reported portions of the base have been started.   In other business, Mayor Patrick Bates revisited the possibility of changing some local street names. If that happens, individual house numbers on those streets would remain the same.    “We discussed it some time ago. I think it’s time we revisited this,” he said, adding, “This cannot be the same as any other names in this zip code.”  The council will revisit the matter at a later date.   Bates reported the town has purchased six snowflake Christmas light decorations. The council is still waiting on word from the Cullman Electric Cooperative regarding preparation and set-up. The decorations will be placed on power poles in the town.    In parks and recreation updates, council members briefly discussed using shade-cloth systems for an option around area parks. Nothing was decided on the matter.  The town engineer made a last-minute change to the striping of the Berlin Farmers Market parking lot. A few adjustments will be made to the rendering before next month’s meeting and any updates will be disclosed then.   Bates asked the council to consider creating a board to manage donations of any future improvements and maintenance for the Berlin/Kritner Cemetery.   He said the property is technically abandoned and would require a form of annexation to have it associated with the town.   The council agreed to table the items until a later meeting.   The Berlin Town Council will meet next on Monday, June 15, at 7 p.m. at Berlin Town Hall.   For any additional information, contact clerk@berlinal.gov
