Obituary: Milford Wayne Ponder

Milford Wayne Ponder, age 81, passed away Monday, May 11th, 2026, at CRMC.   He was a man known for his kind heart, faithful friendships, and love for simple joys in life.

A graveside service will be held Thursday, May 14, 2026, at 2 p.m., at Ebenezer Cemetery with Rev. Steve Rodgers officiating.

Cullman Funeral Home is honored to serve the family.

Wayne was born April 14, 1945, to William Oscar “Ott” Ponder and Josephina “Josie” Brock Ponder.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Sherry Ponder, and his siblings, Nell Ponder, Doris Ponder Jones, Maudean “Dean” Ponder McNutt, Rachel Ponder Steele; Doyle J. Ponder, Jasper Floyd “Bud” Ponder, Dempsey Ponder, Kenneth Ponder.  

He is survived by nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Wayne was an avid sports fan who especially loved Alabama Crimson Tide football and Atlanta Braves baseball. He enjoyed keeping up with every game and cheering on his favorite teams through the years.

He was also known throughout the community for his caring spirit. When his health allowed, Wayne faithfully visited the sick and made it a point to pay his respects at local funeral homes, offering comfort and support to many families during difficult times.

Wayne found happiness in life’s quiet moments. He dearly loved his cat, Babe, watching the birds outdoors and his bird houses. These simple pleasures brought him peace and joy.
